The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
If you have a scheduled appointment or other business at the MTF, please verify with your provider or applicable office within the MTF to ensure there are no changes in schedule. To learn how the lapse in appropriations affects your TRICARE benefit, visit

Volunteer/Red Cross

In order to be eligible to volunteer at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan you must:
  • Be at least 18 year of age
  • Be a SOFA status ID card holder
  • Be a U.S. citizen 
To volunteer, you must complete the following:
  • Red Cross New Volunteer application
  • Attend ARC Orientation (contact our office for orientation dates)
  • OR contact our hospital office at 646-9985 to learn about specific opportunities

The American Red Cross manages the hospital’s volunteer program and welcomes you to volunteer your time and energy. The hospital Red Cross office is a satellite of the main office located on Camp Foster.
