Frequently Asked Questions for people in COVID related quarantine (Updated 27 October 2021)

How long does isolation/Quarantine last?
Isolation:
Tests may take up to 2 days. If your test is negative, you should contact your primary care provider for further guidance if your symptoms persist. If your test is positive, isolation will continue until a minimum of 10 days since symptom onset and/or a medical evaluation has been completed to ensure you are no longer infectious to others.
Quarantine:
Quarantine has several options depending on vaccination status, if you are co-isolating with a positive case and your place of duty or school.  Generally unvaccinated complete a 7 day quarantine with COVID test no earlier than day 5, or a 10 day quarantine released on 10th day with no symptoms (approved by medical authority).
Co-Isolation:
For contacts co-isolating with a positive case, quarantine does not start until after the positive case recovers.

Can I get a “sick note” to bring to my boss/school?
Negative Test:
If your quarantine period is completed and you test negative you can get your test results from the health care records Department at the hospital.
Positive Test:
For Positive cases follow the guidance for isolation.  You will receive notification of recovery when you are no longer contagious.

If my (or my child's) COVID-19 results are negative, how long should I stay out of work?
You should not return to work or school until your (or your child's) symptoms have resolved for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
Close Contacts with negative results still need to complete quarantine requirements before returning to work/school.

Do I need to “report in” to anybody?
Please report to your immediate supervisor. If you are active duty you are required to phone muster with your command daily.

How do I get results?
If you are a Tricare beneficiary, you can check your results on Tricare Online. We will call you immediately if your result is positive. Call your PCM if it has been 3 days and you do not have a confirmed result.

Is it okay to be around my family/roommate? What about visitors?
Isolation (positive case):
No contact with others. Visitors are not permitted. Separate sleeping arrangements and bathrooms from the rest of your family (including your spouse or significant other) are mandatory to minimize potential spread to others. If you must interact with others, wear a face mask to minimize droplet spread to others. Wash your hands thoroughly upon waking, after using the restroom, and every 1-2 hours. Do not prepare food for others.
Quarantine (close contact of a positive case):
You are allowed to be around your family or roommate during quarantine.  There are no close contacts of close contacts. Follow guidance for isolation/quarantine/co-isolation.
Co-Isolation:
Unvaccinated close contacts that co-inhabitated with a positive case are required to complete quarantine following the recovery of the positive case.

May I take over the counter medications to assist with my symptoms or until I see a provider?
Yes. Please follow the recommended doses.

What about pets?
Please restrict interaction with household animals. If possible, another family member should care for the pet and should wash their hands before and after interacting with the pet. While awaiting test results you are not permitted to walk your pet. If you have a house/apartment with a private yard, and there is no possibility of coming in contact with any other person, then you may let the dog out in your yard. If avoiding others cannot be guaranteed, you must make other arrangements (we recommend puppy training pee pads).

May I go to the gym? For a run? To the beach? May I go outside at all?
No, no and no. If your house/apartment has a private yard, you can be in the yard. If you live in the barracks/towers, no.

How do I get groceries/food?
You will need to rely on leadership, coworkers, and friends to obtain your groceries. Isolation/quarantine measures are being followed by you to protect them; we fully expect the community to help support YOU. Leave your food outside your door so that you are not coming into contact with others (even family members).

What do I do with my trash?
If you can dispose of trash without coming into direct contact with others, you may dispose of trash yourself. Those that live in apartments must keep their trash with them until they are released from isolation. Ensure any tissues or other items which came in contact with respiratory secretions are placed into a zip lock bag first.
